Hi guys,

Does anyone know if there is a way to rename (F2) the Underlay tool without having to be forced to rename all the tools it contains?

Select only the underlay, and only it will be affected by the F2 hotkey (or Rename context menu item)

Easiest way to do that is to alt-click on the underlay.

It is. But how about an icon or just the ability to click on the name? Or a field in the Properties? The whole point of Underlays and Notes and all that is to put text in there.

Actually now that I am thinking about it I wish you could draw in them.

I wish the underlay wouldn't define the grid for the tools it encompasses. Changing the size of the underlay will change the invisible grid so new tools you add will no longer line up with existing tools.
