This coming Friday, we will mark 18 years of providing a forum to the non-linear editing and the electronic compositing industries. Pigsfly.com began a mail list on January 10th, 1996, for one of the earliest non-linear video editing systems: Speedrazor. As other products were introduced, if we liked them, we added forums that supported their user base.
As the World Wide Web became the default, we switched to a user forum, and in all that time, we've never accepted any paid advertising. Technically we still aren't, but the banner you see above is still a first.
If you've benefited from our forums, we would greatly appreciate at least a $5 contribution to a project that we started three years ago: The Autism Channel. We're on the Roku platform, and in development on several more, many of which we can't talk about because of NDAs, but we realize that--like non-linear video--the streaming media and connected TV industry is blooming faster than we can keep up.
We need to hire programmers and editors to keep up with the demand, and that takes more money that we can feed this project ourselves.
So if you've ever wondered why this place is free, it's because we thought it was a good deed to do, it didn't cost us much because we already were running the servers, and talking to a community of people struggling with the same leading edge technology was just plain fun.
And we thought doing a good deed for others would come back to us sometime. So now we're asking, and not even for ourselves, because if you take a look at what we're doing at Indiegogo you'll see that it is a project to reach the half-billion people around the world who are affected by an autism diagnosis.
Can you spare $5? You would be helping a lot of people if you can.
Can You Help Us Reach The World?
