can anybody provide me some particle caches (best as a sequence) from formats Partio understands? (PDA,PDB,PDC,MC,PRT,GEO,BGEO,BIN,PTC,RIB)

i'm to stupid to create my own with houdini apprentice (or maybe h13 is to new for Partio)

the more complex and bigger the better ;)

okay, i figured out that SideFx changed there fileformat in H12 and you can convert the new files back to the old style, but i still need some more and other files to test!!

this is right now a very very very buggy thing, crashes nearly every second click ;(

but it can load some of the PartIO formats (geo, mc, bin) and displays the particles in the viewport as points. particle cache sequences working right now with the same "hack" as obj sequences

i was able to load a cache with 1.8Million particles into Fusion and my viewer was still working, it gets really slow if you attach geo (via a replicate3d) to the particles. the screenshot shows over 30k particles and the rendering shows a sphere with 8 segments attached to each particle

you can load the particles into fusion but you cant use them with fusions particle tools, there is no way of doing that. fusion particles arent part of the SDK

are you ready to crash you fusion quiet often? then i have the first public version of my "Partio Viewer" plugin ready

* you can import all formats Partio supports
* you have a slider to load only every Nth particle (to speed up the viewer with really huge caches, but the overall speed is great)
* cache sequences work with the "hack" from here
* you can crash your fusion really often

some general tipps:
* try first to view the "Partio viewer" node befor you do something else
* if you attach a material to it, it will use the color of the material. but change the color of the material before you attach it to the node
* more then one "partio viewer" node active in a scene is not adviced
* using cache sequences is also very unstable
* the points itself will not react to lights in the scene
* loading huge caches can take some time

for the future i try to get done:
* per particle color
* make it more stable
* find why there is no interaction with lights
* what you suggest
* in the next release of my 3Delight render plugin there will be a new node to render the Partio files directly with 3delight

download the plugin itself
a sample scene with the cache from the screenshot

if someone makes something usefull out of it, please show it!
